‘Eat sweet before sour’ to prevent emergency dentistry on Halloween

People who eat too many sour sweets could need emergency dentistry.Anyone intending to stock up on sweets this Halloween may be interested in some advice on how to prevent emergency dentistry.

Dr Rick Coker told KLTV.com that no sweets are actually good for the teeth, but some are worse than others.

While teeth can begin to break down when exposed to foods of pH level 4 and below, some candies can measure as low as 1.6.

The expert explained that it is the sour, fizzy sweets that do the most damage, so people should eat sweet things such as chocolate first in order to protect the teeth if they cannot avoid them.

Dr Coker recommended brushing teeth 30 minutes after eating Halloween sweets to avoid corrosion and advised washing the mouth out with water to get rid of the acids.

Earlier this month, AllVoices.com also suggested that anyone going trick or treating should take a bottle of water with them to prevent needing emergency dentistry later.
