A bullied US teen gets a new smile due to winning a competition. The teen, Eryangelie (13), of Hillsborough County, Florida entered the competition in the hope that she could get her crooked smile fixed. She was so embarrassed by her teeth that she would avoid smiling because of the taunts she received from classmates. Eryangelie spoke about her struggles on a Facebook video. “People criticise easily, especially boys. They just start judging what they first see, and I guess that my mouth, my teeth were the first thing that they see.”
Previously the teen’s mother enquired about braces for her daughter. However, even with dental insurance covering 70% of the cost, the single mum would have needed to find an extra $4000 dollars to pay for the orthodontic work. But now that is not necessary as the competition prize will pay for the full cost.
Dr. Stubbs, the dentist performing the treatment, estimates that it will take around two years to complete the work. This will include fixing an underbite and an overcrowding issue. The young teen began her transformation this month and we wish her all the best.
