Improvements in care home dental hygiene are being reported, with several establishments receiving five-star ratings. The current initiative has been rolled out across Rochdale in a bid to improve the care residents are receiving. Due to dental health being such an important factor in overall health, it stands to reason that improvements to this area could help saves lives. Poor oral health has been linked to heart issues as well as the acceleration of Dementia. With this in mind, it is more important than ever to attain good dental hygiene.
This is evidenced (via Rochdale Online) by the deputy manager of Rochdale-based Stansfield Care Home, Jamie Lee Aughey. “We have not had a chest infection in the home for the last eight months. This used to be a common occurrence and in a way has become non-existent. Since the training, each member of our team has really taken the time to focus on oral hygiene with our residents and the health benefits from this have been fascinating.” With this being such a huge step in the right direction, other towns and cities may follow suit.
