Holidaymakers have been urged not to be tempted by cheap cosmetic dentistry deals when they go abroad.
Dentist Roy Dixon told the Coventry Telegraph he has seen many cases in which people have been approached by touts at their holiday resorts and have then been tempted into having treatments.
However, the procedures are often not performed by qualified practitioners, resulting in them needing extensive treatment when they return to the UK.
“Increasingly there are cowboys out there looking to fleece tourists by offering cheap dentistry,” said Mr Dixon.
The British Health Foundation also said it is concerned by the risks of getting cosmetic dentistry abroad due to the questionable competency of foreign dentists.
Last month, dental expert Dr Alex Farnoosh said regular oral health check-ups are important to ensure people retain their teeth and stay physically well.
He recommended this as the best way to avoid having emergency dentistry in future.
