An orthodontist in the US has credited Invisalign braces with making the process of correcting an overbite much easier.
Dr Stephen Grussmark from Miami said he used the technology on an 18-year-old patient in lieu of a traditional metal brace, despite popular belief that the plastic correctors are only useful in non-surgical cases.
He pointed out that Invisalign can be used in the months building up to surgery.
"The jaws won't meet properly because the teeth are not in the right place, so we have to get the teeth in proper position so that when the surgery is done, the teeth will meet," Dr Grussmark commented.
He said just six months using Invisalign meant that his teenage patient was prepared for his operation without having to waste time going back and to for adjustments – instead, the invisible braces were created using computerisation and fitted in minutes.
