People who are beginning to experience problems with their wisdom teeth may wish to consider having them taken out before they damage existing teeth.
This is the advice of Dr Kevin Coughlin, who told WWLP.com that as much as 96 per cent of the population has trouble because their jaws are not big enough to accommodate the extra molars.
He said that if they have erupted and are growing straight, "leave them alone and care for them like you would any other tooth".
However, if they are impacted, the wisdom teeth could cause other teeth to break and become misaligned, so it may be best to see a professional and have them removed.
"You want to resolve it before it becomes a more serious problem," Dr Coughlin concluded.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has had his wisdom teeth extracted, although it was denied this was done in connection with a hamstring injury.
