An amateur footballer was left needing emergency dentistry after being punched by his teammate, a court has heard.
According to the Ballymoney Times, 24-year-old Adrian William Thompson hit his unnamed former friend after discovering that he had begun a relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
However, he punched the man harder than he intended and knocked out both of his front teeth in November last year.
This week, he was convicted of actual bodily harm at North Antrim Magistrates Court and ordered to pay compensation to the victim to cover his emergency dentistry.
"Whatever the background your behaviour was not acceptable. There are ways to sort things out … the way you sorted it out was totally wrong," said District Judge Richard Wilson.
According to the British Dental Health Foundation, there are several ways to fill gaps created by missing teeth using cosmetic dentistry and anyone who is affected should speak to a reputable dentist.
