The star of iconic 1960s film Bye Bye Birdie has been noted for her "big white veneers".
Ann-Margret is now 68 but was known as a gorgeous and glamorous actress in her day.
Recently interviewed by the Canadian Globe and Mail, she was described by the author Sarah Hampson as a "sugar-plum vision" with strawberry-blonde hair and gleaming teeth.
The article discussed Ann-Margret’s rise to fame and how famous Bye Birdie – which also starred Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh – became. It was recently featured in an episode of period advertising drama Mad Men.
"I get so self-conscious," she told the newspaper, speaking about how she feels when the clip of her singing is shown. "I don’t know who that person is."
Among the many reasons why today’s celebrity culture is different to that of the 60s is image, due to modern-day attitudes towards cosmetic surgery and cosmetic dentistry.
More and more famous faces are turning to the professionals to correct their smile or give them veneers. Among those who have recently sat in the dentist’s chair are Danielle Bux – new wife of Gary Lineker – and Louis Walsh, who is reported to have undergone tooth whitening.
