Here at Pearl Dental Clinic we can perform a cracked tooth repair to fully restore your pearly white and protect it from further damage. Cracks can appear due to trauma, teeth grinding, clenching, biting down on hard foodstuffs, tooth decay, and other damage. If your tooth becomes cracked it is important to seek dental advice as soon as possible.

Cracked tooth repair
Teeth can be classed as cracked when any of the following has happened. Each will require different treatment.
- Cracked tooth: This type of crack originates at the biting surface and travels down towards the root of the tooth. Usually, with this kind of crack, the pulp of the tooth is exposed and root canal treatment is needed to eradicate infection. Then the tooth can then be filled and restored.
- Surface cracks: These are common and the vast majority of people will have at least one tooth with a surface crack in the enamel. Often they do not cause any issues or discomfort but it is still important to inform your dentist during your next visit so they can monitor it.
- Cracked cusp: The cusp is the pointed area on the biting surface. When this is cracked the patient could feel a sharp pain, especially when biting down. A cracked or broken cusp can easily lead to a tooth breaking, therefore, it is important to get this checked out as soon as possible.
- Split tooth: If a cracked tooth has been left untreated then often it results in a split tooth. When this happens, the tooth splits vertically into two parts. If the split is on a molar then at least one of the roots might be saved. Following this, a root canal treatment is performed, and then a crown fitted. Failing this, the tooth may need to be extracted.
