Abscessed Tooth SymptomsPatients suffering from abscessed tooth symptoms may find they experience a severe throbbing pain, fever, and swelling, amongst other things. Abscesses can cause severe complications if they are not treated promptly. Therefore, it is essential to alert your dentist as soon as possible. Here at Pearl Dental Clinic, we offer fast and convenient emergency dental appointments from 9am right up until 10pm. This service is available seven days a week, even on Christmas Day and New Years Day. There is always someone who can assist you.

Abscessed Tooth Symptoms

The most common array of symptoms that a patient may encounter are:

  • A very severe toothache, usually a throbbing pain that can affect the neck, ear, and jaw, as well as the infected area.
  • Patients may notice an increased tooth sensitivity to changes in temperature.
  • Swelling and tenderness could develop in the face and in the lymph nodes under the chin.
  • An unpleasant taste in the mouth or a sudden rush of fluid if the abscess bursts (please note that you will still need dental assistance if this happens).
  • A fever, or high temperature.
  • Increased pain when eating and chewing.

It is important that patients contact a dentist immediately if they think they may be suffering from a dental abscess. If symptoms are left untreated the pain can intensify, along with the risk of the infection spreading. In the most severe cases, an abscess can lead to the development of sepsis which can be life-threatening.
