Severe Dental PainSevere dental pain is an indicator of deeper problems within the teeth or mouth. When a toothache starts it is important to seek professional dental advice rather than waiting for the problem to worsen. Taking this action can prevent the onset of more serious issues and can also ensure your pain is treated and taken care of quickly. Anyone who has had a toothache in the past will know how painful it can be. Therefore, quick treatment is best all around. Here at Pearl, we can provide emergency dentistry on the same day. We also have a twenty-four hour booking service to ensure you can get the appointment you need, fast.

Severe Dental Pain

Severe pain could be a sign of any of the following dental issues:

  1. An infected root canal. This will need treatment by way of a root canal surgery and possibly antibiotics if the infection has spread to the surrounding gum tissue.
  2. Wisdom tooth complications. Whether the wisdom tooth has become infected or has no room to erupt, a dentist or oral surgeon will need to assess the issue and decide on the most appropriate action to take. This could include extraction as a last resort.
  3. An abscess. An abscess can form in the tooth or in the soft tissue. This happens due to a build-up of pus and bacteria. This will need immediate attention and treatment.
  4. A broken tooth. When a tooth becomes damaged, pain will develop. It is highly likely the tooth will be fixable as long as the patient seeks treatment swiftly.

(Please note this is not an exhaustive list. There may be another cause for dental pain that is not presented above. Always seek an assessment from a professional to ensure a correct diagnosis).
