Mouth InfectionA mouth infection could occur for a number of reasons.

If you notice any unusual symptoms in your mouth then it is best to seek dental advice. Once the root of the cause has been established treatment can begin. There could be an issue with the gums or problems with oral health in general.

Mouth Infection

Oral Infection

One of the main oral infections is Thrush. It is important that you seek advice as to why this has occurred. Reasons for such yeast infections could be caused possibly by transmission from another person, a sign of untreated diabetes, wearing dentures overnight, from ill-fitting dentures, due to smoking, or a sign of other medical conditions. Usually, a pharmacist can help with this but if you find it re-occurring you must see your dentist or GP.

Gum Infections

Gum disease is a common mouth infection and often has no symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, if regular dental check-ups are not attending this can develop into a more serious gum condition known as Periodontitis. If you notice anything out of the ordinary with your gums then contact a dentist immediately.

Symptoms Of A Mouth Infection

The symptoms of a mouth infection could include:

  • Noticeably bad breath or a foul taste in the mouth.
  • Feeling very fatigued.
  • Fever.
  • Visible sores, ulcers, or craters in the mouth or on the gums.
  • Pain in and around the area that is affected.
  • Red or swollen gums that could bleed (especially when brushing, eating, and drinking).
  • The development of a gray film on the gums.
  • The colour of the tongue’s surface could appear different (for example white or grey).
