A front tooth implant could be needed for a number of reasons. It could be that the tooth has fallen out due to ageing, because of tooth decay, or the patient has been involved in an accident or incident where the tooth has been knocked out. Whatever the reason for this, a dental implant could be just the thing to replace the missing tooth.
Having an implant means that a patient can have a replacement tooth that functions very much like a natural tooth. The implant is screwed into the jaw bone, fixed firmly, and remains permanently in place. There is no need to adhere it like a denture or remove a palette at bedtime. The implant looks like and functions like a normal tooth. This means that the patient is not limited to what they can eat, like with some other tooth replacement options.
The dental implant procedure is complex and that is why we have our registered Specialist Prosthodontist to complete all implant treatments. However, here is a brief and simplified version of the process:
Firstly, the area is examined and checked to ensure that it is suitable for a dental implant. If the bone is not strong enough to house an implant a bone graft may be required before the implant is fitted.
Once the patient is ready for the implant the screw is fitted and left to heal fully.
Then the implant crown is fitted to match the exact shape and shade of the other teeth. Now the new tooth looks and feels very natural. No one will be able to tell the difference.
