Failed Osseointegration: This means that the implant has failed to fuse with the bone. When the implant and the bone do not fuse the implant will not be sturdy, therefore, it will become loose and will need removing. There is a pre-implant procedure that can help to counteract this issue which is called a bone graft. Our qualified and experienced staff would assess whether this was necessary before inserting an implant. Bone grafting helps to regrow and strengthen the jaw bone to give a strong base for the implant to be attached to.
Peri-Implantitis: Peri-Implantitis is the development of an infection. This can be caused by bacteria developing during the surgery. Alternatively, the infection can set in afterward due to poor hygiene or smoking. Due to infection, the bone surrounding the implant can weaken. Weakened bone will most likely result in implant failure.
