Periodontics deals with the maintenance and treatment of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. The gums are the foundations for the teeth. Therefore, if they are not well looked after teeth cannot be truly healthy. A periodontist specialises in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum inflammation and periodontal disease. Here at the clinic, we can offer a number of treatments. Furthermore, we have a highly trained specialist to ensure patients receive the best possible care.
Our resident specialist periodontist at the clinic is Dr. Efstathios Kousounis. Dr. Kousounis has a Diploma of Dental Surgery as well as experience working at a military hospital in Athens. Following his relocation to London, he has remained in private dentistry. In 2015, he obtained his MClinDent in Periodontology from the world-renowned UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London. Three years of training allowed him to gain a Certificate in Periodontology by the European Federation of Periodontology. He was awarded the Membership in Restorative Dentistry (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2016.
Efstathios is registered as a Specialist Periodontist with the General Dental Council.
Specialist Periodontal treatments available at Pearl Dental Clinic
Treatment for Periodontitis (Gum Disease)
There are many possible signs and symptoms a patient could experience during the development of Periodontitis. Some of which include, bleeding, red or swollen gums, loose teeth, receding gums and bad breath. Treatment for Periodontitis is a specialised area and patients will, therefore, need to consult with Dr. Kousounis. During the consultation, he can establish the extent of the issue and offer treatment accordingly. This may include deep cleaning and scaling for a thorough removal of plaque, or a periodontal surgery.
Treatment for Gum Recession
Gum recession treatment could involve some of the same techniques used for treating Periodontitis, along with procedures such as tissue grafting or bone regeneration. Gum recession could have a number of causes. Getting to the root of this cause can allow effective treatment. Whether the cause is bruxism, vigorous brushing, inadequate oral hygiene, or gum disease there are ways we can help.
Crown lengthening and gummy smile treatments
Crown lengthening is a procedure to extend the visible size of the tooth. This treatment can also be performed to make it easier to attach a dental crown. Also for people suffering from a gummy smile, there is gum reshaping which can totally change a person’s look.
Dr. Efstathios Kousounis accepts specialist referrals from dentists working at Pearl Dental Clinic and also from dentists working in other practices for Periodontic procedures. Patients can book-in directly for a consultation with Dr. Kousounis by calling the practice or booking online.
