Many patients wonder if Invisalign treatment is suitable for their teeth. Invisalign is regularly used to correct the majority of issues with crooked teeth including overbites, underbites, crossbites, crowding and gappy teeth. For very severe orthodontic cases – such as when tooth extraction is required – Invisalign aligners may not be suitable.
During a braces consultation, patients should ask if they are suitable for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign can correct many orthodontic problems but Invisalign is a type of short term orthodontic treatment which mainly corrects cosmetic teeth problems. If you wish to have a serious bite problem or very severe tooth crowding, you should consider comprehensive orthodontics with traditional fixed braces, Damon braces or lingual braces which usually require 18-24 months of treatment.
For Invisalign treatment to work well, it is essential that patients wear their aligners for 20-22 hours a day and attend for 6 weekly reviews. Traditional fixed orthodontics usually involve wearing fixed braces 24 hours a day and attending 4 weekly reviews.
Invisalign provide patients with 3-dimensional before and after videos (Clincheck videos) before the Invisalign treatment begins. Clincheck videos show patients what results can be achieved with Invisalign treatment before any treatment commences without any commitments on the patients part to proceed with the treatment. With fixed braces and lingual braces, Clincheck videos are not available.
Once the Clincheck videos are approved by the patient, Invisalign construct all the aligners based on the Clincheck plan. When the aligners arrive at the practice, we can then commence Invisalign treatment. Patients should wear the aligners 20-22 hours a day and come to see us for treatment reviews once every 6 weeks.
