Fresh Breath

Fresh Breath

Bad breath also known as Halitosis is a very common problem affecting many people often caused by oral hygiene problems. Halitosis can also be caused by smoking, spices diets, gastric problems, respiratory infections, dry mouth syndrome, and certain drinks such as coffee, tooth cavities, loosely fitting dentures and braces.

At Pearl Dental Clinic, we will assess your mouth to find the cause(s) of halitosis and establish a proper professional hygiene program to reduce the build-up of plaque. To clean your teeth, gums and tongue in a better way at home, we recommend the cleaning tools listed below, most of which we stock at Pearl dental clinic.

Rest assured, no matter what the cause of halitosis, our experienced dentists will be able to help, leaving your breath fresh, your teeth, gums and tongue healthy and you feeling much more relaxed and confident.

Manual Brushing

Use small circular movements with the brush held at 45 degrees to the tooth.
Move systematically around the mouth.
Remember to clean the inside surfaces and the biting surfaces.
Dont forget behind the top and bottom teeth.
A good technique will take 2 minutes.

Power Brushing

Angle the bristles at 45º to the gum line.
There’s no need to scrub – hold the brush in position and after a few seconds sweep the bristles away from the gum.
Repeat around the outer and inner surfaces of all teeth.
Particularly effective inter-dentally.
The whole procedure should take about 2 minutes.

Compact Tuft Brush

The Compact Tuft Brush has a domed shaped head with extra soft filaments.
It’s perfect for cleaning around sensitive gums, partly errupted teeth and for cleaning along the gumline.

Interdental Brushing

The TePe interdental brush is used to clean in between teeth for fresh breath.
Turning the brush on insertion will help access.
Used daily, it removes plaque and food debris where your usual brush cannot reach.
For spaces at the back of the mouth, bend the brush in a slight curve but never at right angles this will help you access the more difficult-to-reach areas.
A choice of 8 colour-coded sizes is available to help clean different sized spaces.

Proximal Brushing

The TePe Proximal brush comes in 7 sizes for cleaning different sized spaces.
Click the brush open to insert the head and click down to secure.
Insert the head from the inside surfaces or outside surface of the teeth.
Use daily to remove plaque and food debris from between the teeth.
The brush is particularly useful for cleaning the back teeth.

Interspace Brush

Periodontal disease causes pocketing around the necks of the teeth.
Left undisturbed plaque bacteria thrive in these pockets causing the pockets to deepen.
A standard toothbrush is not able to access these pockets.
The TePe Interspace brush can access these pockets and disrupt bacteria.
Regular use will discourage disease-causing bacteria from accumulating.

Flossing

Debris accumulates between the teeth.
If not removed, bacteria will develop and plaque will form.
Use the floss with a back and forth motion and with a vertical action until all the plaque is removed.
Work the floss gently under the gum.

Mini-Flosser

Cleaning between the teeth is an essential part of a daily oral hygiene regime.
Conventional flossing can be difficult especially when the teeth are very close together.
The Miniflosser can help gain access to the interdental areas with floss.
A Specially designed bite plane allows you to gently ease the floss between the teeth.
Plaque in the interdental area can be dislodged with a gentle backwards and forwards motion.
Visible plaque will be removed.

Super Floss

Superfloss can be used ‘under’ bridges.
First use the stiff end of the Superfloss to insert between the teeth.
Pull the Superfloss through and then sweep under the pontic.
Pull through the normal floss and floss the abutments as usual.

Mouth Rinse

Plaque build-up can lead to inflamed gums.
A mouth rinse can help by removing the plaque and reducing the inflammation.

Tongue Cleansing

85% of bad breath originates in the mouth, most of which comes from the tongue.
Stagnating plaque bacteria and food debris can give off an offensive odour.
Tongue cleansing removes unwanted bacteria from the tongue’s surface and the tongue-coating that cause bad breath.
TongueDetox is designed to make tongue cleaning easy and comfortable.
Use daily for fresh breath, improved taste and a healthier mouth.
