Red face Unhappy with my veneer

    HI

My front tooth chipped in an accident last year and the local dentist placed a composite veneer over my chipped tooth and said that the veneer should last five years.

Since the veneer was done, it has chipped three times and I have been back to have it repaired and he simply says that I am bitting too hard on the veneer and should be more careful.

The tooth has also discoloured and now looks much darker than my other teeth and the darker colour of the tooth makes it stand out when I smile. I am unhappy with my veneer and would like to know what my options are regarding this tooth?

    Smile Unhappy with my veneer

    Thank you for your post.

We need to see you for a consultation to assess your veneer. Its possible that your tooth may have lost vitality and perhaps thats why it has discoloured. If it has lost vitality, it will need a root filling and probably a crown to mask the discolouration and protect the tooth from fracture.

If the tooth has not lost vitality, you will need your bite examined and ways found to reduce the pressure on your veneer. You may be better off with a porcelain veneer as thay are less likely to stain compared to composite veneers.
