Upper lip cosmetic surgery

Hi,

I am trying to find out if it's possible to have cosmetic surgery to my upper lip to correct it and whether this should be carried out by a cosmetic dentist.

Many years ago I was offered the correction by a dentist - but I was too young to make the decision.

I was told it was a simple procedure. I have a piece of skin connecting from the gum between my two top front teeth to the centre of my upper lip giving it a very pointed appearance. I would like to have this removed. Please can you tell me if you can carry out this procedure and if you do how I would go about making an appointment as soon as possible?

Thank you for your question.

The upper lip cosmetic surgery you refer to in dental terms is known as frenectomy. This is to remove a fibrous tissue that extends down from the frenum to between the the top two front teeth, preventing the teeth to come together and leaving a gap in many cases known as diastema.

This is removed with a simple surgical procedure that many times we have done at Pearl dental and is done under local anaesthetic. All you need to do is to book an appointment for the assessment of your lip and its frenum and then an appointment is made for the actual surgery. Nice and simple!
