Question How soon after teeth whitening can I have my fillings changed?

    Hello

I have white fillings on my front three teeth which have become a bit discoloured now and I have decided to have teeth whitening and have the fillings changed to more lighter fillings.

Could you tell me how soon after teeth whitening can I have my fillings changed? I read on the internet that you should wait a few days after the whitening is finished, before having the fillings changed. Is this correct? How many days do you think I should wait, before having it done?

Smile How soon after teeth whitening can I have my fillings changed?

    Hello Katarina,

    Thank you for your post.

When teeth are whitened the oxygen molecules which break down the stains penetrate the tooth and can remain inside the enamel and dentine for up to 2 weeks. These oxygen molecules reduce the strength of the bonding between the tooth and new fillings.

You should not have any fillings replaced for up to 2 weeks following the completion of teeth whitening. This will ensure maximum bonding between white fillings and the tooth.

Often what is written on the internet can be incorrect or misunderstood. You should follow advise given by your dentist. At Pearl we offer free teeth whitening consultations and can give you a quote for replacing the old white fillings.
