Why is the tooth near the gum not as white as the rest of the tooth?

Hi

I had britesmile teeth whitening last week at a practice in north london. I noticed afterwards that the areas of my teeth near the gum are not as white as the rest of my teeth. I followed all the instructions and did nothing that I should not have done.

So I would like to know if there are any reasons why my teeth are not as white near the gum as the rest of my teeth? Where they missed out and not whitened or is this normal with teeth whitening?

Thank you for your post. Two possible reasons for yellow areas near the gum after whitening.

1. The enamel near the gum is thinner than other areas on the tooth and sometimes even worn away. So the yellow dentine shows through and we cant whiten dentine with teeth whitening, so where the enamel is worn away or thin, there will be more yellow showing after whitening.

2. Whitening gel may have been kept away from the gum line region of the tooth to avoid burning the gum accidentally.
