    Lightbulb discoloured front tooth

    Hello

I wonder if you could give me some advice. When I was a teenager I fell off my bike and broke the tip of my front tooth. The tooth had to have its nerve removed and later became very dark and discoloured. I am getting married in four months and would like to know what options are available to sort out the colour of this discoloured front tooth so that it can match the colour of the neighbouring teeth around it?

    Many thanks

    Smile discoloured front tooth

    Hi Timothy,

A discoloured front tooth commonly occurs following trauma. When a tooth is knocked, a number of scenarios can arise. The tooth can become bruised and then recovers with no changes to the tooth, nerve and blood supply. The tooth may also respond by filling its pulp chamber and maintain its vitality. Finally the blood and nerve supply to the tooth may become irreversibly damaged and the tooth becomes non-vital. With the final two scenarios a discoloured tooth develops. Bleaching works very well with the second scenario and we have successfully treated a number of these cases at Pearl. With the final scenario, restorative treatment combined with bleaching is necessary so that it can match the colour of the neighbouring teeth around it. Restorative treatment will include root canal therapy and crown or veneer.
