Hi Zara
The following risks exist with Zoom whitening:
1. Your teeth can become more sensitive temporarily.
2. Fillings, Crowns & Veneers stay the same shade and will not whiten with any form of whitening. If crowns, Veneers & Fillings exist on front teeth, you may have to replace them after Zoom to avoid shade mismatch.
3. Occasionally gums may be burnt with whitening, but this usually recovers.
4. Zoom whitening is not suitable for people who have peroxide allergies or skin photosensitivity problems.
5. Results are unpredictable, sometimes the teeth may not become as white as you want them to be with Zoom and you may need to do Home whitening after zoom to improve the shade further.
6. Patches and lines may appear on teeth but these are usually temporary.
7. All forms of Whitening eventually fade, you can maintain the results of Zoom for a longer period by using home whitening top-ups or repeating the Zoom whitening.
Hello Zara,
Thank you for your post.
Teeth whitening is a safe procedure when carried out by an experienced dentist. There are no major risks with the teeth whitening systems we offer at Pearl. All our dentists at Pearl are very experienced at providing zoom laser teeth whitening safely.
The things to be aware of with all forms of teeth whitening are temporary sensitivity, mild discomfort and occasional gum burning. The gum burning is reversible. Fading will occur with teeth whitening and regular touch-up treatments will minimise this.
