Hi
I have two wisdom teeth that need to be removed under IV sedation because I am petrified of dentistry. However these wisdom teeth are in a very bad state and they need to be removed as soon as possible.
I saw on your sedation page that you offer dentist sedation at £120 per hour and specialist Anaesthetist sedation at £240 per hour. I would like to know what is the difference in the sedation level achieved between these two types of sedation?
Is the dentist sedation likely to be deep enough for me not to feel the wisdom teeth being removed? Which type of sedation do you think would be better for wisdom tooth extraction?

Whats the difference between dentist sedation and specialist anaesthetist sedation?
Hi,
Thank you for your question.
One can never predict ow well a person will respond to drugs used in intravenous sedation. Some people will be very effectively and easily sedated by a dentist for the most complicated treatment by means of sedation induced by one drug by a dentist. Some other people will need a lot of medication and to be effectively sedated will need a combination of drug to induce Iv sedation.
Only anaestetist can use combination drugs to induce sedation where as dentist can only use one type of drug for sedation. Use of combination of drugs tends to give a more assured deep form of sedation. Now which one you wish to have depends on how deeply you want to be sedated and how sure you wish to be that you are fully sedated and you will not be aware of anything.Dr Vahid Motahar BSc BDS (London) MFDS RCS (England)
