Scared of injections

Hi

I have a big fear of injections and for that reason I have put back my dental treatment for almost a year now. I need one filling on my molar tooth and some deep cleaning underneath my gums.

I would like to know if you feel oral sedation could help reduce my fear of injections. My worry is that if I delay my dental treatment for much longer, it may become a lot more serious. Your advise would be appreciated.

Do you treat any other patients who are scared of injection? how do you reduce their anxiety? Is there a way to do the dental treatment without injections?

Oral sedation can be good and effective way to treat anxious patients for reasonably simple treatments like scaling and simple fillings. However it disadvantage is that its effect is not predictable. some patients are effectively sedated enough o allow treatment to be completed and some are not. Intravenous (IV) sedation is a much more reliable technique for people scared of injections but it is more expensive that oral sedation. At pearl dental clinic we mostly rely o IV sedation.

There are techniques that we can use for people whom are specifically are scared if dental injections like the use of Wond machine that is an effective an painless way for injections but this is ideal if your only fear of dentistry is the injection bit and the rest 0f the treatment does not bother you.
