    Question Fear of dental Injections

    Hello

I have been told by my dentist that I need both of my wisdom teeth removed because they keep causing infection in my jaw. I have tried antibiotics several times but the problem keeps coming back.

I have now accepted the fact that these wisdom teeth need to come out but since my childhood years, I have a big fear of dental injections.

Can you tell me if I have these wisdom teeth removed under sedation, will I still need injections beforehand?

    Talking Fear of dental Injections

    Thank you for your post.

There are different ways to reduce the pain of Local Anaesthetic injections for you, they are:

    1. Topical Local Anaesthetic gel applied to the gum before the injection is given to numb the area and so reducing the pain of needle entry into the gum.

    2. The use of the WAND system (Computerised Anaesthetic delivery system). We use this system at our clinic and it delivers the local anaesthetic very slowly with a very fine tip and with minimal tissue expansion and so it reduces the pain of local anaesthetic injections.

    3. IV sedation can help to relax patients that are anxious and we use it widely for needle phobic patients. You will still need the Local Anaesthetic if you have IV sedation but if the Topical anaesthetic gel and the Wand system are used as well as IV sedation, it will be very unlikely that you will feel or remember any pain.
