    Exclamation IV sedation question

I am due to have all my wisdom teeth removed at the hospital under full anaesthetic next month. I have a few questions to ask about IV sedation and would be great if you could answer them.

With IV sedation am I likley to gag when the surgeon puts his equipment around the back of my mouth. My gag reflex is pretty bad and this is a concern to me.

Secondly will I see what is going on during the procedure or will I be asleep. I am ok with fillings and cleaning but really don't wish to see anything when having my wisdom teeth extractions.

    Talking IV sedation question

Thank you for your post. IV sedation usually reduces gag reflex and can help patients who have severe gag reflex to have dental treatment at the back of their mouths.

Deep IV sedation causes patients to go to sleep and become much more relaxed but they will still be conscious and respond to verbal commands. IV sedation carried out by experienced ans well trained anaesthetists is safer than full General Anaesthetic because the patient is conscious during sedation.

The best thing about IV sedation is its amnesic properties so you will not remember afterwards what occurred during the surgical procedure.
