Default Elderly father & deep sedation

So my 75-year-old father has some major dental work coming up (namely, root canals) He's absolutely PETRIFIED of the dentist and is insisting that he receive a deep sedation of some type. Is it safe for a man of that age to receive that type of treatment?

    Hi

    Thank you for your post.

Sedation of elderly patients involves additional risks that are associated with age and coexisting illness. There is a possibility of complications which can arise from chronic illness such as chronic lung disease or heart failure. An accurate medical history of elderly patients will be taken before sedation is planned. Elderly patients require a reduced dosage of sedation. At Pearl we have experienced sedationists who have many years of experience in treating very nervous and anxious patients. I suggest your father comes to the clinic for an examination. Dental Examinations are available 7 days a week and cost £30.
