Question will I feel any pain after IV sedation?

    Hi

I am due to have Intra-venous sedation on Saturday to remove a broken wisdom tooth that has hurting on and off for months. My own dentist referred me to a clinic that provides IV sedation and they said that they can remove it. They promised me that there will not any pain during the tooth extraction procedure even though I will be awake but I am now worried about the problems afterwards. My friend said that after she had her tooth removed, her face was swollen for a few days. Am I likely to have a lot of pain afterwards and will I be able to go to work on Monday? Do you think I should take a few days off work next week to cover any problems that could arise after the wisdom tooth extraction under sedation?

    Thank you.

After tooth extractions even when carried out under IV sedation, there can be swelling, bleeding and pain which may persist for a few days. The more difficult a tooth extraction is, the more inflammation will be created during its removal and the more swelling there will be afterwards. Without seeing your tooth, I can not say if you should take time off work and you should consult your own surgeon for advice on that issue.
