    Post Tooth wont numb properly

    Hiyya

I have a tooth that has gone bad and needs to be removed. The problem is that I have problem being numbed at the dentist. Dentists have tried to numb my teeth over the years but I still feel them drilling my teeth and at times its very painful.

My dentist even sends to the waiting room after he numbs my teeth but even half an hour later, I can still feel pain when he starts the drilling. I have managed to put up with some pain because I have had minor fillings in the past but now I need an extraction, I dont think I will be able to cope with the pain of tooth extraction.

My dentist has suggested sending me to the local hospital so that they can put me to sleep and do the extraction with me asleep but I am not too keen on this idea.

I came across your clinic offering IV sedation and wondered if IV sedation could help me? Is IV sedation available for tooth extractions and is it safer than being put to sleep?

    Talking Tooth wont numb properly

    Hi Chloe

Thank you for your post. These days with the modern drugs available to us, you should not suffer any pain during dentistry.

With General anaesthesia (GA) you will be unconscious and therefore there is more risks involved with GA than with conscious IV sedation. Also GA dentistry is not widely available outside hospitals.

With deep IV sedation administered by an experienced Specialist Anaesthetist as well as Local anaesthetic used by your dentist to numb the tooth well, you are likely to be more relaxed than with local anaesthetic alone.

So overall I would say that Deep IV sedation as well as profound local anaesthetic to numb area well, would be a good alternative to GA for your tooth extraction.
