Arrow Will I be groggy after IV sedation is over?

    Hi

I have a terrible fear of dentists and so far have only had dental treatment under general anaesthetic. However at the moment one of my molars really hurts and I have been told that the tooth needs root canal treatment. The hospital have refused to do this and want to take the tooth out but I want to save my tooth. I have looked at deep IV sedation as a serious alternative treatment and would like to have my treatment with deep IV sedation. One thing I would like to know is how I will feel after the treatment is over. In the past with the general anaesthetic, I have always felt groggy afterwards, is that the same with deep IV sedation?

Deep IV sedation uses many of the drugs used in General anaesthetic, so if you usually feel groggy after having GA, you may feel groggy after IV sedation. That is why you must go home after the IV sedation treatment with an escort and rest at home.

Having said that, most of the patients that have deep IV sedation, feel fine afterwards and just feel like they have had a good sleep in the dental chair.
