Unhappy Dead tooth extraction

I was told by my dentist that on the bottom right, in my mouth, first molar, that it had been dead for a while, and needs to be taken out.

Could you please tell me how they would go about taking it out, and anyway to stop the pain until that time, at the moment cold water seems to soothe it for a very short period of time.

P.s. I'm petrified of dentist.

Wink Dead tooth extraction

Thank you for your question.

A dead tooth can be removed or treated with root canal treatment. If you are nervous about dentistry, you should consider IV sedation to make you more relaxed during treatment.

Extractions are usually carried out with forceps and elevators and with the back teeth, we often split them into separate roots and remove the roots individually in order to preserve your bone.
