Unhappy Can I be fully put to sleep?

    Hi,

I have a lot of work that needs doing to my teeth but i have a full blown panic attack as soon as I so much as walk into a dental surgery!

I wondered, is there such a thing available as putting you fully to sleep and completing ALL dental work that needs doing at once, so as not to have to keep having one thing done then coming back week after week?

    Thank you

Wink Can I be fully put to sleep?

    Thank you for your post.

Putting people to sleep so that they become unconscious and need airway support is called general anaesthetic and it carries a small risk of fatality and is very expensive to arrange. I dont know of any place in the UK that carries out general routine dentistry under General anaesthetic for the normal healthy adult population.

However you can be put to sleep with deep multiple drug sedation in such a way that you dont become unconscious and this is carried out by specialist anaesthetists. We do have a specialist anaesthetist who carries out deep sedation and she is very experienced at providing deep sedation. Deep sedation is very effective and patients dont feel anything or remember anything afterwards.

We can try to do as much work in one session if you like. Such a session might need to be several hours if necessary. You can book a consultation by calling reception on 0208 547 9997.
