Unhappy Pain after tooth nerve taken out

Hi, I saw the dentist to have root canal treatment on my incisor tooth last week. The tooth had become infected. I was having tooth pain and had a dental abscess. The dentist took the nerve out and has asked me to come back another visit for him to fill it.

However I’m still in pain. I am confused because my dentist has taken the nerve out. How can I have sensation from a dead tooth? Is this root canal pain normal?

Any suggestions about how to restore the appearance of the tooth once the root canal treatment is finished?

Wink Pain after tooth nerve taken out

    Hi

Its not uncommon to have toothache for a few days after the root canal treatment is completed. This pain could be caused by inflammation created during the procedure or pressure of the clamps on the gums or injection trauma around the root canal treated tooth.

The pain should settle down eventually and if it still persists, you should go back to see your dentist for a review. Once a tooth is root filled, it may discolour and to restore the cosmetics of the tooth, you can have a crown which also protects the tooth against cuspal fracture and provides a good seal for the root canal treatment underneath.
