Antibiotics for a tooth abscess

I keep getting an abscess from a root treated front tooth and my dentist keeps giving me antibiotics for it.

Iv had lots courses of penicillin antibiotics so i dont think I should be having any more. My dentist says that the root has become reinfected and that i must have surgery to have the tip of the root removed.

I would be grateful for a second opinion. Do you think i should cut my losses and just have the tooth removed.

Tooth extraction is always an option that is available to you, however once a tooth is removed, you will lose aesthetics and function from that tooth and you may regret losing it. There are options available to replace a tooth such as an Implant that you may wish to explore before you have the tooth removed.

I think your dentist is suggesting an apicectomy, which is sometimes done when repeated root canal treatment fails. Antibiotics by themselves will not provide you with a long term solution and you will need to have the tooth assessed by us in order for us to be able to tell you if it can be saved or not.
