    Red face Decayed teeth

    Hello

I have two decayed teeth which have been decaying away on the right side of my mouth for two years now without causing me any discomfort. My dentist says that the only way I could keep these two teeth would be to have root canal treatment followed by crowns.

I have read that root canal treatment sometimes does not work and also I am a person who can barely tolerate the hygienist cleaning my teeth and I don't think I would enjoy having a root canal filling done.

I would like to know if there are any alternatives for decayed teeth other than root canal and crowns. Are there any other alternatives that are less painful and costly?

    Smile Decayed teeth

    Hello Maxine,

    Thank you for your post.

Root canal treatment normally has a high success rate and done well with a crown can be a long term solution for a decayed tooth. The alternative treatment option you have will be removal of these decayed teeth.

Root canal treatment is not necessary painful. For nervous patients we offer the option of treatment with sedation. The sedation is provided by a medically trained practitioner.

Root canal is more expensive than having a tooth removed, however the cost of replacing a missing tooth can be much more than a root canal and crown treatment.

I would suggest you come and see us for assessment and we will carry out the most suitable treatment which is also not painful.
