Root canal infection

Hi

I had root canal treatment on my front incisor tooth last year and since then every now and then, I get a bit of a swelling around my tooth which usually goes down after my dentist gives me antibiotics for the infection.

The problem is that the root canal infecion comes back after a few months and so I would like to know if there are any long term solutions for the problem of root canal infection? Ideally I would like a solution that means I would not need to take anymore antibiotics for this tooth.

Your root canal infection maybe caused by a failed root canal. If this is the case, the solution would be either re-root canal treatment or extraction +/- implant, bridge, gap, denture as appropriate.

Re-root canal treatment is often performed if the tooth can be saved but even this can occasionally fail and if it fails, the options of extraction +/- implant, bridge, gap or denture may become more attractive.
