Angry Root canal swelling

Hi

My dentist did a root canal filling on my front tooth on Tuesday and over the last few days, the area around the tooth has swelled up and is now pushing my top lip up and if anything to me it looks like its getting worst rather than better.

I have tried paracetamol and Ibuprofen but the pain is gradually getting worst and I am worried it will get much worst. My dentist did warn me about pain and swelling after the procedure but this pain and swelling is more than what I expected to have.

I would like to know if root canal swelling is normal after having a root canal filling done and if anything can be done to stop the pain that I am suffering?

Exclamation Root canal swelling

Thank you for your post.

A degree of swelling can sometimes happen after root canal treatment but its better to go back to see your dentist for him to assess the tooth to make sure everything is ok.

There can be some pain after root canal treatment. The best pain killer without prescription for that sort of pain would be Ibuprfen as long as you do not have any medical contra-indications to it. If that does not work, then again you will need to see a dentist to assess the tooth and perhaps prescribe a stronger painkiller.
