Default First Root Canal is a crown necessary

I've just had my first root canal done on one of my molar teeth. It is the one right at the back on the right bottom. My dentist says I have to get a crown on it. My dental insurance doesn't cover crowns and he says it will cost me about $500. Is a crown really necessary? Or is my dentist just trying to get extra money out of me.

    Hi

    Thank you for your post.

Following successful root canal treatment on a molar tooth we recommend the tooth is crowned. A crown provides the best coronal seal and also ensures the cusps of the tooth are protected from fracture. At pearl we offer all ceramic crowns, metal ceramic crowns, all zirconium and gold crowns. During root canal treatment, a large portion of the tooth is removed and the remaining tooth tissue can fracture and discolour after root canal treatment. A crown can increase the success rate of a root canal treated tooth and protect the structure of the tooth and increase its longevity and its aesthetics.

You can apply for finance for any treatment ranging from £395 to £25000 in cost.

For treatment plans of less than £1000, only finance option 1 i.e. 6, 10 or 12 months 0% interest dental finance is available.
