darkened tooth after root canal

about 2 months ago, I had my front tooth root filled because there was some infection underneath it and my dentist suggested that root canal filling it would be the best way forward for the tooth. The pain stopped after my dentist root filled it and I stopped worrying about that tooth. Over the last couple of weeks, I noticed that the tooth is gradually becoming darker and darker and now it looks totally different to the teeth around it.

I assume this is because it was root filled because my dentist warned that this could happen. He was suggesting having a crown put on the tooth. I am not keen on having a crown, because I know how bad crowns look on front teeth. Can anything else be done to reverse the problem now?

Teeth do very often darken after root canal treatment, and your Dentist was correct in recommending a crown as the best way not just to improve the aesthetics (looks) but also in order to strengthen that tooth, to prevent it from fracturing or chipping in the future, due to it's now weakened state.

An alternative to crowning the tooth in order to improve its appearance, can be internal deep bleaching or teeth whitening, however this does not always work very well.
