Root canal on molar tooth

I saw my dentist on friday after a night of pain from my left side molar tooth and he xrayed the tooth and said that I will need root canal on that molar tooth. He says he can do the root canal in one sitting but my previous experience is of root canals being done in two or more sittings. Is it safe to do a molar tooth root canal in one sitting?

Thank you for your post. Root canal treatment can be done in one or more visits, depending on the clinical situation. Some root canals can be done in one visit, others should be done in two visits.
