Cracked root

Hi

I have been to see my dentist recently to finish a root canal filling and he informed me that he is unable to complete the job as the root has cracked.

He noticed the crack as he was doing the root canal and he told me that the tooth will cause pain if its left as it is and he advised removing the tooth.

Can you tell me if you are able to finish this root canal and if not, what are my alternative options?

Sometimes root canals can fracture and this reduces the prognosis for the root canal treatment as bacteria can enter the root canal area through the crack within the root and cause infection.

With some minor cracks one can attempt a repair with a special MTA root filling material but some cracks are simply too severe and cant be repaired.

If your tooth needs to be removed, your alternative options would be to leave a gap or have a denture/ bridge/ implant.
