General dentist or root canal specialist for root canal?

My front top tooth was damaged in an accident last year and I had to have it root filled because it became discoloured and died due to the accident. At the time, I was abroad and a general dentist root canal treated the tooth and later on my own dentist put a cap on that tooth. However for the past two weeks, I have had some pain from the tooth especially when I put any pressure on that tooth. My own dentist says that the root canal has not worked and needs to be redone. Would you say its better to see a general dentist or a root canal specialist for this root canal filling?

Some general dentists do fantastic root canal work and some specialists do very good root canal work. Its difficult to generalise and say which group would be better than the other as there is variations in experience and skill.

You would need to compare case by case based on individual experience and past results.
