Why does a root canal filling cost much more than a filling?

I have a back tooth that hurts every time I bite on that tooth and have been told by a local emergency dentist that the tooth needs root canal treatment. He quoted £800 for the root canal treatment and said that the tooth will also need a £700-£800 crown after the root canal is completed.

Unfortunately my own dentist has recently retired and I am in the process of trying to find a new affordable dentist. I normally used to pay my own dentist £100-£150 for fillings and would like to know why root canal fillings cost so much more?

At Pearl dental clinic, root canal treatment costs between £200 and £450 and a crown costs between £395 and £595.

Root canal treatment needs a lot more skill and patience and takes between 1hour 30 minutes and 2 hours 30 minutes and needs a lot of different materials and equipment to complete. A filling takes 30-45 minutes and needs far less materials and equipment. Hence that is why root canal fillings cost more than fillings.
