Do I need retainers after Invisalign treatment?

Hello

I would like to have my crooked teeth straightened up with Invisalign. I have looked at the various options of getting Invisalign or metal braces and have decided to go for Invisalign. The orthodontist who did my metal braces consultation said that I will need to have retainers after my brace treatment is finished. I would like to know if I will also need to have retainers after Invisalign treatment? How do the retainers look and are there different types of Invisalign retainers?

Thank you for your question.

In general once the orthodontic treatment is completed, whether it is with metal braces or Invisalign, you will need to wear retainers.

The advantage of Invisalign to metal braces is that the retainers themselves which can be of different types, are mostly like the Invisalign aligners and therefore are see through plastic retainers. By the time you have finished your Invisalign treatment you will be so used to wearing the aligners that wearing the retainers will be very easy and you do not need to get used to them again.

The only important thing is that not all of the cases are suitable for Invislaign and you need to be seen and be clinically assessed to make sure we can achieve a good result by Invisalign for you. We would be very happy to do this for you and our consultations currently are free.
