Question Could I have Invisalign treatment if my teeth have gum disease?

    Hi

I have been diagnosed with gum disease about 6 months ago and I am currently seeing a periodontist for intensive gum treatment to treat my gum disease.

Unfortunately according to my periodontist I have had gum disease for a while but due to me not seeing a dentist regularly it had not been treated and it has now become pretty advanced gum disease.

Because of my gum disease, my teeth have started to move into positions that are quite unusual and this has really ruined my smile and I would like to reposition them back to where they used to be.

My periodontist says that I still need a few more visits of gum treatment before I can go on a maintenance program for my gums. I would like to know if I can have Invisalign braces in the mean time to reposition my teeth back to where they used to be?

Smile Could I have Invisalign treatment if my teeth have gum disease?

    Hello Kate,

    Thank you for your post.

Advanced gum disease often results in drifting teeth which can really effect the smile in a detrimental way.

The best person to see when you have advanced gum disease is the periodontist. Once your periodontist has completed the initial phase of gum treatment and has placed you on a maintanence program you can then have orthodontic treatment for teeth repositioning. Your periodontal treatment is incomplete so invisalign treatment can't be started now.

Orthodontic treatment can be started when the gum disease is controlled and this can be confirmed by your periodontist. In the meantime you can see us for an invisalign consultation and we will confirm if your case is suitable for invisalign.

Invisalign consultations are free and also available on weekday evenings and weekends at Pearl.
