Question Are there any side effects to using Invisalign braces?

    Hi

I am considering getting my teeth straightened using Invisalign and I have just a few questions to ask you first. I would like to know the answers to these questions before I book an Invisalign consultation.

Are there any side effects to using the Invisalign braces? My dentist says that with orthodontic treatment sometimes teeth can become loose, is that true of Invisalign as well?

How long does the treatment take, my dentist says that orthodontic metal braces can take up to 2 years. How long does Invisalign take on average to complete?

Smile Are there any side effects to using Invisalign braces?

    Hello Hollie,

Yes most orthodontic treatments can result in the teeth becoming looser, although it is very unlikely.

Dental tenderness may be experienced after changing to the next aligner in the series. Gums, cheeks and lips may be irritated. Tooh decay and periodontal disease may occur if proper oral hygiene and preventative care is not maintained.

The aligners may temporarily affect speech and may result in a temporary lisp.

A previously traumatised or significantly restored tooth may require additional dental treatment such as endodontic and/or additional restorative work and the tooth may be lost.

Existing dental restorations such as crowns may become dislodged and require re-cementation or replacement.

The length of the roots of the teeth may be shortened during orthodontic treatment and the useful life of the tooth may be shortened.

Very rarely problems may also occur in the jaw joint, causing joint pain and headaches.

The average invisalign case takes 1 year to complete but it can range from 5 months to 18 months. The invisalign video gives a close indication of the treatment time.

Invisalign braces are really very helpful in straightening your teeth in a proper way. These braces are invisible and do not pose an ugly look to you. However, there are lots of people who used these braces have complained that it caused small wounds inside their mouth due to the metal brackets. This is especially common during the first few months of your braces.

Invisalign braces do not involve any metal wires or brackets at all. If you are seriously considering Invisalign as an option, you should arrange to see an Invisalign Dentist who will be able to assess your suitability, and if suitable, let you know what your individual treatment will involve, specifically.

At Pearl Dental Clinic, our team of experienced Invisalign Dentists are available 7 days a week including evenings and weekends fro a free, no obligation consultation.
