Invisalign Disadvantages

Hi

I have decided to straighten my top and lower front teeth and it seems to me that the best system available for me would be Invisalign. Invisalign seems to be the most discreet but at the same time widely used system that I have seen.

I would like to know if there are any Invisalign disadvantages as well? I mean are there situations when Invisalign is not the best option and are there any disadvantages to having the invisalign treatment?

Invisalign sysytem is an extremely conservative and effective system. Where in conventional orthodontic treatment, where braces are placed, usually the first line of treament is the extraction of the teeth to create the space needed and then by means of braces and metal wires they move teeth and align them, in Invisalign system there is very rarely a need for tooth extraction. The spaces needed for crowded cases is created by very minor tooth removal between the teeth that does not even need injections (usually 0.25mm of each tooth). This is one of the best advantages of Invisalign I think.

The limitation of Invisalign is that it is not suitable for very complecated cases were there is severe crowding and impacted teeth. These cases are better treated by conventional braces as a lot of force is needed to move these teeth. But in the majority of the cases and from what I understand your own case, Invisalign is a very effective, simple, comfortable and aesthetically much acceptable alternative to metal braces.
