Invisalign elastics and buttons

Hi

I was at your clinic for an Invisalign consultation last week and the dentist said that I might need invisalign elastics and buttons towards the end of my Invisalign treatment. I forgot to ask him what they were exactly. Could you tell me what are invisalign elastics and buttons and how visible will they be when I smile and how long will they be on my teeth?

Some tooth movements are challenging for Invisalign aligners to achieve by themselves and in these situations we place attachments (white fillings) on the teeth and connect them to each other with white elastics over the invisalign aligners. We ask you to change the elastics yourself daily for hygiene purposes and we leave them on for a few weeks. Elastics and buttons are only used in exceptional circumstances as they are visible and if your teeth movements are challenging, you will be told about them pre invisalign treatment.
