Unhappy Unhappy experience with metal braces so far – front teeth clashing

I had my metal braces fitted a few months ago and my front teeth have started clashing now. I’m worried because I read about a case where the front teeth had to be replaced due to constant clashing. The only way to fix this problem is somehow to pull back the jaw. I can withdraw my jaw on my own in which case there is no clashing but it’s hard to keep have it withdrawn as it naturally protrudes forward. I also have a speech defect as a result of the metal braces. I told my doctor at the last checkup that my front teeth are clashing and he said that maybe the rearrangement, that is the new set of wires, made my mouth shift. The wire on my teeth also feel very tight, and I feel my lower front teeth are going to come out. Does anyone feel this? And will my teeth become permanently loose?

    Hello Honey,

Sometimes during orthodontic treatment some teeth hit prematurely and there is a feeling of teeth clashing or an uneven bite. So long as your orthodontist is aware of this they should ensure that at the end of the treatment there is a balanced even bite and no teeth hitting prematurely. It is normal for teeth to become loose during orthodontic treatment. Provided the periodontal health of the teeth are not compromised your teeth will not become permanently loose. Metal braces can effect your speech and feel very tight especially after wire changes. We recommend Invisalign clear braces as they are comfortable and very rarely affect speech.

If you had 4 extractions (2 upper and 2 lower) plus braces for overbite and are unhappy with facial appearance and your braces have been off about a year and you don't wear your retainer in hopes the teeth will migrate back. Is there anyway to reverse this like opening the bite and pulling teeth forward? Looking for any alternatives.

Braces can also be damaged if proper care is not taken. It is important to wear a mouth guard to prevent breakage and/or mouth injury when playing sports. Certain sticky or hard foods such as taffy, raw carrots, hard pretzels, and toffee should be avoided because they can damage braces.

The space closed after the extractions can in theory be opened again and dental implants placed for the extracted teeth. This option I would imagine may not be good aesthetically as the overbite may become increased again. Another quicker treatment option is to have composite or porcelain veneers as they would increase the lip support and improve the facial aesthetics.
